Kristina Maude is a former competitor and current coach for the KU Mock Trial Team. She competed for the team from 2012-2016 while pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. In her time with the team, she served on the Executive Board for 3 years serving as the public relations director (2013-2014), treasurer (2014-2015) and president (2015-2016). As a competitor she received numerous attorney and witness awards and focused primarily on working with character witnesses as an attorney and performing as a main witness. She is most proud that in her year as president the team was able to qualify three teams to the Open Round Championships, host the first Jayhawk Invitational Tournament in 8 years and qualify the first KU Mock Trial Team to Nationals in the past 10 years where they received an honorable mention. She was disappointed when she was told she had mono and could not compete at Nationals that year but was happy when in her first year of coaching she was able to coach a team to Nationals. She then finally could attend Nationals for the first time with the team where they again received an honorable mention.
In addition to coaching, Kristina currently teaches 8th grade Guided Reading at the Ewing Marion Kauffman School in Kansas City, Missouri. She is passionate about her job and creating equity in education, believing that every student should one day have the opportunity to go to and graduate from college. As a reading teacher, she will talk to you about any of your favorite teenage books to read - her favorite books to teach are The Outsiders, The Giver and My Sister's Keeper.
